Looped vs. Pegged Ramps: Which Edging Should You Use for Garage Tiles?

Installing a Flexspec Garage Floor is famous for being a quick weekend DIY project. But there is one tiny decision you make with your ramps in the first 5 minutes that determines whether your install takes 2 hours or 6 hours.

It all comes down to which Ramp Edge you start with.

The Question: "Which ramps go at the front?"

Your tiles and ramps come in two types:

The Peg Ramps (Male)
The Looped Ramps (Female)

You might think it doesn’t matter which way you face them, but it changes everything.

The Answer: Always Start with "Female Looped" Ramps

When you place your ramps at the garage door entrance, make sure you use the Looped Ramps (the ones with the open circles).

Why? It’s all about the “Click Direction.”

If you start with the Looped Ramps at the front, the loops on your first row of tiles will end up facing towards the back of the garage. This means every subsequent tile you lay simply clicks down over the top of the previous one. It is fast, easy, and satisfying.

What happens if I use the Peg Ramps?

If you start with the Peg (Male) Ramps, you force yourself to work “backwards.”

Instead of clicking down, you will have to lift up the previous row slightly to slide the new tile underneath to lock it in.

The Result: You have to lift the heavy floor up for every single row you lay.
The Pain: It doubles your installation time.

Summary Checklist for a Fast Install

Step 1: Sweep the floor.
Step 2: Lay your Female Looped Ramps across the driveway entrance first.
Step 3: Snap your first row of tiles on top of the ramps.
Step 4: Continue into the garage, simply pressing the new tiles down onto the existing loops.
